Corrib Bay IRE 1657

Right at the end of volume VIII of the Irish stud book you'll find Corrib Bay. The information about her is not extensive: bay, born in 1952, 13.2 hh and registered in in the ownership of Joe Lee in Oughterard, and where most ponies now had both a sire and a dame listed she is without pedigree information. Corrib Bay had five registered progeny and three of her four daughters are worth taking a closer look at. The stallion son Amber of the Lough made no deeper impression, though one daughter was placed third at Clifden show.

The oldest daughter Merrileas was born when Corrib Bay ten and two of her daughters are interesting from a Swedish perspective. Merrileas oldest daughter, Strandhill Lass, was exported to Denmark as a five-year-old and was sold to the Öxenholm stud after a couple of years. She was inspected and awarded a class 1 premium (not to be confused with Class 1 of the stud book). She became the mother of a total of five daughters and two stallion sons and she was awarded an Elite premium. Of her sons, Öxenholm Sammy competed at dressage to Danish championship level and among his few progeny are several successful performance ponies, competing both dressage and showjumping, including Pilgaards Haddock, Pilgaards Santos and Pilgaards Zam, all exported to Sweden. One of Strandhill Lass's daughters, Curious, was exported to Sweden. She grew overheight and was placed second in the overheight class at the 1982 Swedish breed show. From another of Merrileas's daughters, Merry May Day, come Roswat Legend who has been exported from Ireland to Sweden. He's a successful show jumper, but has unfortunately not been registered with the Swedish Connemara society.

Cooheen Tansy was Corrib Bay's 1965 foal and as a brood mare at the Coosheen stud she gave rise to what may be the most important branch of the family. Between 1971 and 1988 Tansy had 14 registered foals, of which 13 was by Coosheen Finn, and two of them made their way to Sweden. The oldest daughter, Coosheen Rosemary was either first or second at Clifden show as a yearling, two- and three-year-old, and she seems to later have been exported to the UK.

Coosheen Coriander was exported to Denmark as a foal and she was inspected with a Class 1 award. In 1981 she and her daughter Öxenholm Celeste were imported by Bengt Wilson and she had 11 foals in his ownership. In the show ring she was gold awarded at the 1982 breed show. The Danish-born son Chili Con Charme was a successful show jumper and several of Corianders Swedish-born progeny have also been successful performance ponies: Cardinal Corrianne and Cornelia II have taken competition points in dressage, Celestine in show jumping, Chester in show jumping and eventing and Cyrrano and Chapman in show jumping, dressage and eventing. Chapman won double gold medals at the 1995 Nordic eventing Championships. His full brother Cyrrano was in the ribbons at the Swedish eventing championships no less than seven time, with two gold and two silver medals. At the 1994 Nordic eventing Championships he took an individual gold and a team silver and in 1997 he took a team gold and individual silver. Add to that a European championship record with team silver (individual 28th), team gold (individual 7th), team gold (individual 5th) and a team silver (individual 7th) and you have a track record that is hard to beat. Three of Coriander's daughters, Corinne II, Cornelia II and Corrianne were awarded diplomas as three-year-olds and Cornelia II was gold awarded at breed shows no less than six times, in 1996 with a reserve supreme championship as icing on the cake. Classic Royce was exported to Germany and Celisia is an Elite premium mare.

Coriancer's daughters have also been the mothers of several successful ponies. Öxenholm Celeste is the dam of Nyvretens Crockett who after being placed second at his quality test and was a successful dressage pony during many years. During teh early 00:ies he was among the top ten dressage Connemaras in Sweden on multiple occasions and in 2004 he won the Gotland district championships. Crockett's half sister Cordyline grew overheight, but she was gold awarded at a local show. Corinne II has provided the Bränntomt stud with many successful ponies. My Copy won her class at the 1996 breed show and Juvelin did the same thing in 2005 and took the supreme championship. Corinne's II sons have been reliable performance ponies - Bränntomts Fingall was third at the 2013 Connemara eventing championships and Bränntomts Wilmer has competed successfully in show jumping. The big star, however, is Nice-n'-Curly, Class 1 stallion and one of the best eventing Connemaras and ponies in Sweden during many years. In addition to a Swedish championship silver he has a Nordic championhship bronze, a Swedish championship gold and a European championship team bronze on his record. Among Corianders other descendants we also need to mention Class 1 stallion Bränntomts Garfield; Bränntomts Julius, Bränntomts Wilma, Corrasang and Önnarps Inka, gold awarded at the breed show; diploma mares Bränntomts Wilma, Bränntomts Wera, Önnarps Juvel and Önnarps Lemona; Önnarps Katleen and Önnarps Lemona with awards at three-year-old tests; young pony championship an Connemara show jumping champion Önnarps Juvel; dressage ponies Cannavaro, riding pony stallion Masterpiece, Önnarps Kurant and Önnarps Katleen and the show jumping ponies Cordon Hill, Bränntomts Julius (also with eventing competition points9, Bränntomts Wilma, Bränntomts Wera dna Önnarps Juvel.

Three years after Coosheen Coriander her sister Coosheen Dill was born. As an eight-year-old she was imported to Sweden as a competition pony and she had a successful carreer. In 1989 she was the registered Connemara with the most competition points in show jumping. When her competition career was over she became a brood mare. Her A premium son Calvin Klein was gold awarded at the breed show and was placed second at his quality test. Among his progeny are six diploma mares, at least seven ponies with awards at three-year-old tests and / or quality tests, young pony championship winner Höryda Joy's Sunshine Pearl, progeny gold awarded at local shows or the breed show and with competition points in show jumping, dressage and eventing. In addition Calvin Klein have highly placed progeny in both Denmark and in Finland, where he was exported.

Coosheen Dill only had one daughter, but Coriona became a first class brood mare at the Bjennesby stud and she has been awarded both an Elite premium and the Swedish Connemara society brood mare award. Of her ten daughters five, Dillba, Dita, Tara II, Bjennesby Alanis and Bjennesby Cher, are diploma mares. Dillba, Zambah, Alanis and Cher have all been gold awarded at local shows and / or breed shows and all of them have secured championship titles. In 2012 Cher was youngstock champion at the breed show. Four of Coriona's progeny, Tara II, Alanis, Bjennesby Takida and Bjennesby Loreen, have awards from quality tests. Zambah have competition points for show jumping and Alanis and Bjennesby Sting have both competed successfully in dressage. Sting was the third best dressage connemara in 2013 and in the next generation we find Bjennesby Vincent with competition points in show jumping.

In 1981 Coosheen Tansy's next daughter, Coosheen Penny Royal, was born. She was exported to the USA and founded a large branch of the family as a brood mare at the Big Bear stud. In 2006 she was awarded the American Connemara pony society's brood mare awards. Her granddaughter, Rivendell's Pondi Rosa was, during two consecutive years, mare champion and Grand Champion at a regional Connemara show. Another Tansy daughter to be exported was Coosheen Rue. She was sold to the Netherlands where she earned a ster premium, as did her dayghter Kalsey van de Bossenhoeve. Coosheen Briony is the dam of Kilkerrin Edward, who has competed successfully in driven competition, and Misty Morning, who has been one of the best show jumpers in Norway. No les than three of Briony's descendants have been exported to Sweden: Glaun Joey, Sweet Earl and Cherrywood, where Sweet Earl has competed in show jumping and eventing and Cherrywood has competition points in show jumping. Two of Tansy's sons also deserve a mentioning. One is the gelding Coosheen Carraway, who helped the Irish eventing team to a team bronze at the 1994 European Championships. Coosheen Thyme was approved as a stallion and among his progeny are, in addition to Clifden show winners and other ponies successful in hand and in ridden classes, no less than two participants at European Championships - Myshall Rodge who took an eventing team bronze in 2017 and Snow Thyme representing Austria in show jumping in 2011.

Corrib Bay's daughter, Gortnaclassa Lass, was born in 1967 and had only two registered daughters, of which the second, Kiltogorra Grey, is the most interesting from a Swedish perspective. At the 1983 Clifden show a son of Kiltogorra Grey was placed second, but it is not clear whether he was ever registered, or if it was Kiltogorra Grey's stallion son Ramaru (born 1983) who somewhere along the way have had his birth year mixed up. Kiltogorra Grey's dayghter, Kiltogorra Katie, is the dam of Shanbo Rory, who has done well at ridden classes in the UK. Another son, Kiltogorra Cliff, was exported to Sweden where he competed successfully in show jumping. In 1998 he was the eighth best show jumping Connemara. Cliff was later sold to Denmark and continued to compete successfully there at the national level. Another performance pony from the same branch of the family is Oilean Aran Cailin, who has done well in WHP classes in Ireland. Another two of Kiltogorra Grey's daughters have also passed on performance genes. Lissatava Queen is the great granddam of Swedish export and show jumper Creggsfort Flash Back, who unfortunately has not been registered with the Swedish Connemara socitety. Kiltogorra Grey is also the great granddam of Boaring Cruise, successful young ridden pony and winner of the ridden class at the 2018 Dublin show. And let us not forget Urrachree Lady's son Star of David who during several years have secured show jumping competition points in Sweden.
