Gray Beauty IRE 358

Gray Beauty was, as the name implies, a grey mare. Born already in 1928 she must have been with her 13.3 hands quite large by the standards of those days. Her daughter Adventure's Own was by Adventure, an early stallion who failed to found a stallion line, but who's hade some influence through his daughters. Adventure's Own had like her mother only one registred daughter, but three of her, Rebel Star, daughters have given rise to a branch of this family.

Oldest of the three and with the smalest branch was Sarah II. She was exported to Great Britain and her granddaughter Moulsham Swallow made her way to Sweden as a four year old. Her two foals, Dynamite and Silvia II both competed successfully in show jumping and Dynamite ranked number ten among the show jumping Connemaras in 1981 and eight in 1982 and 1988.

Branch number two arose in Ballyconneely Pier. In the 1976 Connemara Chronicle is a photo of her. Then, at 23 years of age, she was still helping bringing home seaweed. Her decendants have not been much in the spotlights. One daughter, Doran, went to Denmark, but was never entered in the stud book there. A granddaughter of Ballyconneely Pier, Gentian Colleen, became a brood mare in Belgium. Another granddaughter, Bunowen Pier, is the dam of two registred stallions, Granahan Champ who was second in the stallion class of the 1989 Clifden show, and Lone Ranger whos son Caperann Ranger was placed fourth in the 1998 performance test.

The third and by far biggest and most successful branch comes from Rebel Star's youngest daughter Maresa, who with her two daughters have had an impact on the breed in Britain, Sweden and above all in Denmark. Maresa's oldest daughter Moy Maryln was born in Ireland and had her first foals there before being exported to Britain. In Britain she became a brood mare at the Oaklands stud where she now has decendants in four generations.

Moy Maryln's oldest daughter, Moy Little Maresa, was exported to Sweden. She became a brood mare, first at the Brolöten stud but kept foaling also after being sold from Brolöten. One of her fials Brolötens Topas grew over heught and competed successfully among horses to fairly high levels. Another of Moy Little Maresa's offspring was the registred stallion Cannon. He has himself competed both in show jumpin ang in eventing and he won the stallion class at the 1994 local show in Falkenberg. As a sire he's behind among others the two part breds Candida and Casper, both successful eventing ponies. Cannons full sister Candela is a diploma mare and the dam of Cassandra who's competed successfully in both show jumping and dressage. Cassandra has also passed on the performance genes to her son Willes Cayenne who started his career by being runner up for the dressage championship for 6 year olds in 199 and he has since continued his dressage career. In 2001 he was ranked eigth among the dressage Connemaras and in 2002 seven.

Maresa's second daughter, Moy Marissa, was exported from Ireland to Denmark and eventually made her way to Sweden even if she was never entered in the Swedish stud book. Maritta came to Denmark in 1972 carrying a foal to Finney Master. Ther result was the class 1 mare Öxenholm Marilyn. Marilyn is in turn the dame ot the two full sisters Öxenholm Molly O'Rourke and Öxenholm Marigold. Those owning the book Out of the Mist can see the two sisters performing at the 1981 Roskilde show. The two sisters were also class 1 mares and Molly O'Rourke was reserve for the youngstock championship ot the 1979 international show at Vetlanda. Marigold is also an Elite mare and among her offspring we find the third generation ckass 1 mare, Öxenholm Movie Star, as well as the show jumpers Cheery af Ellebrud (silver medalist from the 1998 Danish championships), Golden Gate af Ellebrud (also best pony at the 1995 Själland inspections), Maxi Lily of the Valley and Maximilian af Ellebrud.

Öxenholm Movie Star became a brood mare at the Frederiksminde stud wher she struck a successful partnership with Hazy Dawn. Together they have three approved sons in Denmark, Germany and Ireland. Among the daughters are the class 1 mares Frederiksminde Hazy Maureen and Frederiksminde Hazy Star, the USA export Frederiksminde Marion, Frederiksminde Molly in Britain and Frederiksminde Melanie in Sweden. With Hamlet of Oakleigh Movie Star is on top of all that the dam of the Swedish export Lykkesholm Quita and Frederiksminde Mellow, class 1 mare, Champion at the 1991 Själland show and nowadays successfully competing in show jumping.

The decendants of Öxenholm Marigold have been very popular at the Skousboe stud which has had Frederiskminde Mary Lou and Mellow as well as Cheery and Goldengate af Ellebrud as brood mares. Mellow's son Skousboe Morning Rock has a record that is hard to beat with a reserve championship titel from the 1993 Själland show, and championship titles from 1994 and 1996. When he was approved in 1994 it was with the phenomenal score of five 10:s and four 9:s in the nine categories judged. Not surprisingly he was elected best pony of the inspections, a title he also claimed in 1996. His offspring have been foal champion, reserve overall champion and best pony of the inspections and several of his daughters have been class 1.

Öxenholm Moskito was imported to Sweden as a yearling by the Brantshammar stud and was approved two years later in 1981. Among Moskito's offspring are three diploma mares, several gold awarded ponies, a quality test runner up and the succeful dressage pony Our Chance who was among the top ten dressage Connemaras every year between 1993 and 1997 and was ranked six in 2001. He must have inherited the dressage genes from his sire who when his stud career came to an end competed dressage and also some eventing with much success. Like his son Moskito have frequented the ranking lists and in 1995 he was ranked second among the Connemaras and ninth of ponies of all breeds. His fines hour was in 1988 when he won the Swedish dressage championships for ponies 130 - 140 cms high.

After breeding in Denmark Moy Maritta came to Sweden in 1975 and had three foals, all by Tiger Boy. The oldest foal, Belinda II had a successful career as a show jumper but was before that a brood mare. Her son Grytåsa Knallhatten has competed in dressage while Whispering Wind and Grytåsa Kryddan have walked in their mother's hoofprints and become show jumpers, as has Belinda's little Brother Goy. Grytåsa Kryddan has after her jumping career turned to breeding and is the dam of Kewarra who was second among the yearling fillies at the 2004 national show.
