Graine Uaile IRE 743

Graine Uaile can be categorised among ponies who's name you pray never to have to pronounce aloud. She was born in 1934 and has no pedigree recorded in the Irish stud book, and only a single registred daughter. This daughter, Grainne Mite, was sired by Dynamite, a grandsone of Rebel's who was never registred, but who was used to some extent and has 14 offspring in the Irish stud book.

Grainne Mite was the mother of four registred mares and two registred geldings. The oldest daughter was Moycullen Mite, born in 1958 and among her offspring you can find both this and that. Her oldest daghter was one of the early Swedish imports, the double stallion mother Cait. Cait's two apoproved sons have both been successful performance ponies. Möllans Cirro was during the 80-ies a successful sjow jumper and was brought forward for inspections after the owner had heard that approved stallions were guaranteed a loose box at competitions. At the general inspections in 1993 Cirro was given an 8 for type and among his few offspring ate the gold awarded diploma mare Cherie III and Corleone, fourth in the 5-year-old dressage championsip in 2000.

Cait's second son, Uranus, has truly shown the multi talent of the Connemara and competed successfully in show jumping, dressage and eventing. During the second half of the 90-ies Uranus was among the top ten eventing ponies in Sweden with both a silver and a gold medal at the Swedish championships. In 1998 and 1999 he took part in the Nordic eventing championships and won a team and an individual gold. Add to that a team gold from the 1997 Swedish dressage championships and several in hand golds. As a stallion he has sired the gold awarded Gräns Rose and Kiwi Querida, the diploma mare Gräns Corona and the approved stallion Kewin.

Among Cait's daughters we find Jinny who has competed in show jumping and who as gold awarded and a class winner at the local show in Umeå in 1983, and two Finnish exports, Happy and Lucy II. In the next generation, among Cait's grandchildren, we have gold awarded O'Sofin, Best of Breed at the local show in Umeå the same year as her dam Jinny was gold awarded. On the performance side we find Julicia, successful driving pony, and Midnight Wind, Capella and Jimmy Boy from the show jumping circuit. Cait's great granddaughter Pimpinella was among the top ten eventing Connemaras in sweden in 2006 and has also had success in dressage and also Marble Bounty has competed successfully in dressage. Another great granddaughter of Cait's, O'Key, was foal champion at a local pony show in 2004.

After two geldings Moycullen Mite had the daughter Fort Sapphire in 1967. She was exported, together with two of her daughters, Fort Anna and Fort Tulip, to France. In France Fort Sapphire had progeny with the suffixes de la Dive and de l'Aubier, but I haven't found anything further about them. Fort Sapphire left her daughter Fort Hazel in Ireland. In 1974 she was one of six mares to move to Phoenix Park, the residence of the Irish president, to represent the Connemara there to the visitors of the president. When president Childers died shortly after Fort Hazel and the other mares came to the Connemara National Park where their descendants still can be seen by visiting tourists.

Fort Hazel's oldest daughter is the not entirely unknown Silver Fort. She has an impressive record from Clifden show and I count no less than five top three placings, and from 1985 she has a first and a reserve supreme champion title. As a brood mare her offspring have even more successes at Clifden show. Youhoo, Thunder Boy, Kingstown Joe, Kingstown Silver and Rocky have all won their class as a foal and Kingstown Silver was champion foal in 1987 and Kingstown Joe in 1991. Oisin, however, was "only" second in his foal class. Kingstown Silver and Rocky have won a further two times each and in 1991 Rocky was both youngstock champion and Supreme Champion before being exported to the USA. Sadly he proved to have fertility problems and there are only a few progeny by him.

From Silver Fort we have a long line of successful ponies. To start with Kingstown Silver she's the dam of the Clifden winners Kingstown Dana, Kingstown Fionn, Kingstown Fort, Kingstown Starlet and Kingstown Fairy who was also champion foal. Kongstown Fort was also Supreme Champion at the Oughterard show in 2004. Kingstown Fort and Kingstown Bay Lady have both ebeen exported to the UK and been successful there. Kingstown Fort was the best ridden Connemara at on of the 2003 local connemara shows and Kingstown Bay Lady won her class at the 2002 Brittish breed showand has been champion and reserve champion at the South West Connemaras local show. Kingstown Silver's offspring have also made their way to France and Kingstown Rory won the class for three-year-old stallions at the 2006 French breed shwo and was also reserve youngstock champion. Still in Ireland we have Kingstown Fairy, the dam of among others Fairyhill Fort and Fairyhill Gizmo, both having been placed at the Clifden show.

From Silver Fort's four approved sons there are also some ponies deserving a mentiion. Oisin is the sire of the 2003 winning yearling colt at Clifden show. He's also the sire of Lehid Canal Prince in France who has a youngstock championship title from 2001 and a champion stallion title from 2006 on his CV. In the UK we have Oaklands Lace, in hand champion at a local level and Oaklands Silver Orchid with an In Hand Mare premium. The German export Thunder Boy is tha sire of among others the premium mare Dreikronen Wistaria and Dreikronen Thunder Spirit who won the gelding class at the 2002 German breed show.

There are yet another two of Moycullen Mite's daughters that should be presented here. The first, Kingston Mite, I don't know a lot about, but she seems to have been exported to the UK and from there on to France. One of her progeny in France, Tofée de Garenne has done well as a competition pony. Kingston Mite's half sister Celebration Cream, also went to the UK where she became a foundation mare at the Cheviot stud. In Ireland she left a stallion son, Napoleon who was later exported to Libya. Celebration Cream herself was a successful brood mare in the UK. In 1975 she won the brood mare class a the Brittish breed show and she eventually became a Super Premium mare. In the show ring she's the dam of amongst others CheviotBryony, reserve champion at the 1977 Brittish breed show; Cheviot White Clover, youngstock champion in 1978; Cheviot Crocus, 1979 foal champion and Cheviot Campion, local show champion. Under saddle she has Cheviot Bracken, the 1990 Performance Award Scheme winner. Cheviot Midas has had a career in France where he was Supreme Champion at the 2001 French breed show. Also Midas's offspring have been successful with French champion titles and class victories to Eliza Schüeracher, Maylight Schüeracher, Kevin van Schüeracher, Lassie Schüeracher and Lolita Schüeracher.

To return to Grainne Mite she had another two daughters after Moycullen Mite that were both exported to Sweden. Leading Light was the first and she came to Sweden already in 1965. As a brood mare she gave rise to a clan of very successful performance ponies. Her son Leading Lord has a bronze from the Swedish dressage championships and a bronze and two golds from the Swedish eventing championships and during the latter part of the 70-ies he was among the best ponies in the country both in dressage and eventing. In 1979 he was the most successful eventing ponies of all breeds. His little brother Leading Lincoln is not far behind. Two bronzes and a gold from the Swedish eventing championships and a team gold from the Nordic championships, and between 1984 and 1993 he was more often than not among the top eventing ponies in Sweden, but he was also competing successfully in both show jumping and dressage. Yet another full brother, Leading Luch competed in dressage. Also the following generations have done well in the performance field. Leading Legend in show jumping, and Legend's offspring Grytåsa Kummin, Leading Limerick and the part bred Henessy, and an unregistred progeny of Leading Luck, Lucky Magic, have competed in both dressage and eventing. Leading Love's son Light O'Love could by the way be seen at last summers Swedish breed show where he took part both in hand and under saddle.

Grainne Mite's second Swedish export was Ballad Singer and she was born in 1964. She came to Sweden in 1968, but was never entered in the stud book here. Her first daughter in Sweden was Ballad Star and at the age of nine she was shown at the breed show where she was awarded a silver. Star's grand daughter Ballad Sindy has also been silver awarded at the breed show and she has competed in both show jumping and dressage. Her grandson Ticket to Ride was in turn second in a strong gelding class at the 2004 breed show with a creditable 41 points and a gold. The greatest success has, however, perhaps Ballad Star's daughter Ballad Princess had. During more than ten years time she has competed successfully in both show jumping and eventing and she was among the top ten eventing connemaras in both 1993 and 1995, and in 1995 she crowned her carreer with a bronze at the Swedish eventing championships.
