Silver Spray IRE 328

Silver Spray was born in 1930 and the mare family she founded might not have been very distinguished during its first generations. Silver Spray has only one registred daughter, Silver Lor, who in turn only had two daughters, Lor Ruadh and Inver Lor. Lor Ruadh's oldest daughter Oranmore Stardust did however establish the family with her four daughters. Stardust's oldes daughter Oranmore Victory is the dam of the French stallion Coshla Bobby, who among others has sired the highly ranked performance pony Nagir de la Scarpe. Victory's filly foal from 1983 distinguished herself by coming third in her class at the 1985 Clifden show.

The next daughter of Oranmore Stardust was the Swedish export Gold Dust. Her son Goliat was a highly ranked dressage pony during the mid eighties, and Ember, a half brother of Golian, was getting dressage points during 2002. The dressage genes seem to run in the family because Ard Harmony, Oranmore Stardust's daughter from 1975 was exported to Denmark, and she too has competed successfully in dressage. Stardusts last daughter ard Khana was placed third in her class at the 1979 Clifden show, but is probably best known as the dam of the stallion Ard Conneely who was champion at the 1992 Clifden show. Ard Conneely has sired the 1995 winning yearling colt, and Ard Archie, who proved to be a good loose jumper in 2001.

Another daughter of Lor Ruadh is Heavenly Days. She won the class for two and three-year-old mares at Clifden show and among her decendants the stallions Silver Heaven and The Batchelor, champion at the Royal Dublin Show 1995, can be found. Heavenly Days is also the dam of Cossack, a part bred by a thoroughbred stallion. Cossack was a very successful dressage horse and was a member of the first Irish national dressage team. Another daugthrer of Lor Ruadh, Foreglass Colleen was champion foal at the 1967 Clifden show.

Lor Ruad's youngest daughter was her namesake, Lor Ruadh 2nd. As a brood mare she subscribed to the front places of the youngstock classes at Clifden show during the eighties. In 1982 her yearling filly was third and her colt foal, Dr. Slattery won his class. The fillowing year her colt foal, who unfortunately died later, was third. In 1985 her filly foal, Lor Ruadh 3rd, was second and in 1987 her colt foal was third like her 1989 colt foal two years later. The same year Lor Ruadh 2nd's yearling colt was placed third. In 1992, at the age of eighteen, Lor Ruadh 2nd was the dam of thecolt foal placed third. Her colt from 1986 is a grade A show jumper in Britain. Her 1991 colt, Foregloss Kim, was exported to Sweden and was placed second at the 1994 breed show with a strong silver. A granddaughter of Lor Ruadh 2nd, Misty Dawn, has also found her way to Sweden and a grandson, Robuck, is in the USA.

Glen Lady has followed in the footsteps of her dam as a producer of show winners. Her son Canrower Liath won the gelding class at the 1995 Clifden show and her daughter Glencroft Amy won her class in 1996 and again in 2002 when she was also reserve for the champion title. Also in later generation successful show ponies can be found. Glen Lady 2nd was the dam of the 1992 third in the filly foal class and her son, Glenvalley Grey, sired the foal placed correspondingly in 1999. Glencroft Amy has shown that she also passes on her beauty. Her son Castleside Glenboy was youngstock champion at the French breed show of 2001.

Inver Lor, Silver Lor's second daughter, has also given rise to successful show ponies. Her youngest daughter Sarena is the dam of Sarena 2nd who in 2001 won the oldest mare class at Clifden show. Sarena is also the dam of Murvey Sara who's daugter Miss Logan is the dam of the stallion Blue Smokie who in 1996 was placed fourth in the Irish performance test and was second in the 1999 stallion class at Clifden. Miss Logan is also the dam of the Swedish dressage pony Ayla, and grand dam of Murvey Cherry Cove, placed third in the 1994 yearling filly class at Cllifden. The same year Miss Logan was also the grand dam to the third in the clas for four and five year old mares, Lady of the Erne. Another grand son of Miss Logan is the Danish stallion Woodstock.

Winter Snowdrift is according to the Irish stud book by Carna Dun with an unknown dam, but according to the Swedish stud book she is by Doon Paddy out of Inver Lor which would make her Inver Lor's oldest daughter. Winter Snowdrift was gold awarded at several shows with a second place in the older mare class of the 1981 breed show as her biggest success. She was the dam of 14 foals and was awarded the SCS brood mare award in 1985.

Maby of Winter Snowdrift's descendants have been successful performance ponies. The daughters Råcksta Gunette and Jeanette II have competed in show jumping and the son Doon Tellus and the daughter Pinette in dressage. Among the grand children are the show jumpers Cirrus and Midnight Dara and the dressage ponies Jonte (seventh best dressage Connemara in 1991(, Originella and Saya and a line of ponies by Winter Snowdrift's approved son, Råcksta Janco. Among his offspringa are Fidel Janco, Genbäckens Rubin, Host and Pallas Athena, all of them ranked among the top ten Connemaras in the country, Fidel Janco and Rubin in show jumping, Host and Pallas Athena in eventing. Host has also been among the top ten eventing ponies, all breeds, four times and on his CV are participation in European championship, team gold from Nordic championship and an individual bronze in the Swedish championship. A great grand child of Winter Snowdrift should probably also be mentioned, the part bred dressage pony Ninna. Among Winter Snowdrifts descendants are also two quality test pioneers. In 1979 Genbäckens Rubin and Cirrus were placed third and fourth among the five year old ponies.

Winter Snowdrift's descendants have also shown their front feet in the show ring. The daughter Råcksta Jacquette has, like her daughter Originella, have recieved a three-year-old diploma. Rose a great grand daughter descending from Råcksta Madette is also a diploma mare. Mounette won the yearling filly class at the 1982 Hagen show and was gold awarded again at the Swedish Pony Breeder's Society show in 1984 before being exported to Finland. Another Finnish export is Rosie's half sister Josefine II. Winter Snowdrift's son Doon Tellus won the clas for Two-year-old colts at the 1982 Hagen show and the grand son Cirrus won the gelding class at the 1980 breed show. Råcksta Janco has, apart from successful performance offspring, a Championship title from a local show in 1977 to be proud of. But most successful is probably Winter Snowdrift's daughter Pinette with several golds and a reserv champion title from the 1991 breed show. Without any particular show or competition record, but well-known outside the Connemara circuit is Winter Snowdrift's grand son, the gelding Råcksta Ando. Those who during the eighties followed 'The Broknäs girls' in the cartoon magazine 'Min Häst' (My Horse) will remember him as one of the horses at the Broknäs yard.
